New ABN Form Now Available
Old Form May Be Used Until May 12, 2026, But the AAC Recommends Transitioning to the New Form ASAP
On March 13, 2026, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget approved the control number for the Advance Beneficiary Notice of Non-coverage (ABN) (CMS-R-131). The old version of the form expired January 31, 2026. The new version has an expiration date of March 31, 2029.
The updated version of the ABN is effective immediately, but providers may continue to use the expired version until May 12, 2026.
The AAC recommends phasing in the new ABN as soon as possible to ensure adherence to the May 12, 2026, compliance date.
